Former Lawyer Dies in Malad West Road Accident

A tragic road accident occurred in Malad West on Sunday night, resulting in the death of a 35-year-old former lawyer, Priyanka Satra. The incident took place at around 8 pm at Mamledar Wadi Junction, where Priyanka was riding pillion with her husband Mayank on an Activa scooter.

They had stopped at a red signal when an MG Windsor allegedly rammed their bike, leaving both seriously injured. The car then crashed into three autorickshaws, injuring their drivers and a passenger.

The injured autorickshaw drivers were identified as Subhedarchandra Chaudhary, 50, Ramkesh Rajbhar, 35, and Abdul Shaikh, 25. A passenger, Jaitunabi Sab, 48, suffered a head injury and required 20 stitches.

Priyanka died during treatment, while Mayank is out of danger but requires further surgeries. The police arrested the 65-year-old car driver, Krushna Chamankar, and are investigating whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Chamankar's blood sample was collected at Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali West and sent to a forensic laboratory in Kalina for analysis. The police are also looking into allegations of VIP treatment for Chamankar, who is reportedly a resident of the Versova-Andheri area.

BJP-nominated corporator Pravin Chheda has written to Police Commissioner Deven Bharati demanding strict action and an inquiry into the allegations. Chheda alleged that relatives saw Chamankar using a mobile phone and sitting on a chair inside the lock-up.

He further alleged that Chamankar was later taken to an AC room at the rear of the police station under the pretext of a medical examination. The incident has raised concerns over road safety and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws in the city.
