Anantnag Houses Demolished After Terrorist Attack

A day after a policeman was killed in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district, the houses of two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were demolished on Thursday. The action was taken after a head constable was shot dead by a lone terrorist in Anantnag town while on duty for Amarnath Yatra security.

The demolished houses belonged to Aadil Hussain Thokar of Guree, Bijbehara, and Haroon Ganai of Hassanpora in South Kashmir's Anantnag district. This is not the first time Aadil Thokar's house has been demolished, as it was previously razed after the Pahalgam Baisaran terror attack. The newly constructed house at the same location was also destroyed during the overnight operation.

The policeman who was killed, Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi, was a member of the 3rd battalion of Armed Police and was on patrolling duty when the attack occurred. He belonged to the Beerwah area of Budgam district. The killing was condemned by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

The operation is part of an ongoing crackdown on terrorists and their support infrastructure in the region. The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack. The TRF was formed using cadres of militant groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen after the 2019 abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the district police lines in Anantnag to pay tribute to the martyred policeman. Hundreds attended his funeral in his native town, and scores of people continued to come to offer condolences to the bereaved family.
