UP To Plant 35 Crore Saplings On July 12
Uttar Pradesh aims to plant 35 crore saplings in one day. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath leads the initiative.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that Uttar Pradesh will plant 35 crore saplings in a single day on July 12. This massive tree plantation drive is part of the state's efforts to increase its green cover and promote environmental conservation.
The Chief Minister emphasized that tree plantation is not just a government campaign, but a public movement for nature conservation, water security, and climate balance. He urged active participation from every citizen, public representative, student, farmer, and government department to make the campaign a success.
According to the Chief Minister, the success of the campaign will not be measured just by achieving the plantation target, but by ensuring the protection of every sapling planted until it grows into a tree. He stressed the importance of a spirit of commitment, rather than just formality, in making the campaign successful.
The state has set a target of increasing its green cover to 15 percent by 2030 and 20 percent by 2047. To achieve this, an action plan has been prepared to plant 35 crore saplings every year over the next five years. This will help develop the capacity to absorb approximately 72 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
Uttar Pradesh has already achieved remarkable success in expanding its green cover. Between 2017 and 2023, the state recorded a historic increase of nearly 3.38 lakh acres in forest and tree cover. The state's forest and tree cover has increased from 9.18 percent in 2017 to 9.96 percent, according to the India State of Forest Report.
The Chief Minister directed that the large-scale tree plantation campaign be carried out with full preparation, coordination, and accountability. He instructed that progress reports be issued every hour during the plantation drive and that prior verification of plantation sites, preparation of pits, availability of saplings, and proper arrangements for regular monitoring be ensured in advance.
The Mega Tree Plantation Drive on July 12 is expected to be a grand public participation movement, with the state aiming to create a festive atmosphere to encourage participation from all citizens. With the Chief Minister's leadership and the state's commitment to environmental conservation, Uttar Pradesh is poised to become a national model for green development.
The campaign's success will have a significant impact on the environment and the state's development. The increased green cover will help absorb carbon dioxide, reduce pollution, and promote sustainable development. The state's efforts to promote environmental conservation are expected to inspire other states to follow suit, contributing to a greener and more sustainable India.
As the state prepares for the Mega Tree Plantation Drive, citizens are urged to participate and make the campaign a success. With the collective efforts of the government, citizens, and public representatives, Uttar Pradesh can achieve its goal of increasing its green cover and promoting environmental conservation.
