MRVC Commissions Elevated Deck, Foot Over Bridge at Ghatkopar Station

Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Limited (MRVC) has commissioned a new elevated deck and a 12-metre-wide, 65-metre-long South-end Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Ghatkopar Railway Station.

The commissioning of these facilities is part of the ongoing Station Improvement Project, which aims to enhance passenger convenience and strengthen multi-modal connectivity. The new elevated deck connects the existing Metro FOB with the new South-end FOB, serving as a vital passenger circulation corridor.

The 55.0-metre-long elevated deck has a width varying from 4.0 metres to 7.5 metres, ensuring efficient dispersal of commuters. It also features a 6.10-metre-wide staircase providing direct access to the Metro station building, enabling faster and safer interchange between Metro and suburban rail services.

The 12.0-metre-wide South-end FOB complements the elevated deck by providing additional access to the railway platforms and substantially enhancing the station's overall passenger handling capacity. Due to complex site conditions, the South-end FOB is being commissioned in two phases.

Under Phase I, the following facilities have been opened for passengers: a staircase connecting Platform 1, double-discharge landings serving Platforms 2/3 and Platform 4, the newly commissioned elevated deck, and connectivity to the existing eastern skywalk.

The commissioning of the elevated deck and South-end FOB will provide immediate relief to passengers by creating substantial additional circulation space and improving passenger dispersal between the railway platforms, Metro station, and the eastern side of the station. This will significantly reduce congestion during peak hours.

Upon completion of the remaining works, the South-end FOB will also have main staircases on Platforms 2/3, Platform 4, and the eastern side, in addition to the existing staircase on Platform 1 and the double-discharge landings. The completed facility will be equipped with six escalators and four lifts, ensuring convenient and barrier-free movement for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and passengers carrying luggage.

The transformation of Ghatkopar Station is a significant step towards enhancing passenger convenience and strengthening multi-modal connectivity in Mumbai.
