Maharashtra ACB Registers 439 Corruption Cases in 7 Months

The Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered 439 corruption-related trap cases across the state between January and July this year. This marks an increase from the 419 trap cases registered during the corresponding period last year.

The majority of the cases involved officials from the Revenue and Land Records Department, followed by the Police, Panchayat Samiti, and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd (MSEDCL).

A total of 632 persons, including 109 private individuals, were booked in the 439 trap cases. Most of the officials involved were Class III government employees, with 308 cases, followed by Class II officials with 81 cases, Class I officials with 47 cases, and Class IV employees with 20 cases.

The Revenue and Land Records Department had the highest number of corruption-related trap cases, with 104 cases, followed by the Police with 67 cases, Panchayat Samiti with 49 cases, MSEDCL with 27 cases, and the Education Department with 23 cases.

The total amount of bribe money involved in the 439 trap cases was Rs 2.20 crore. The highest amount of bribe money sought was related to officials of the Police, with Rs 54.65 lakh, followed by the Revenue and Land Records Department with Rs 33.43 lakh.

The maximum number of trap cases were registered in the Nashik range, with 97 cases, followed by Pune with 82 cases, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar with 65 cases, Thane with 58 cases, and Mumbai with 22 cases.

This year, the ACB has also registered one disproportionate assets case, involving a CIDCO official, with a total amount of Rs 1.94 crore.

The rise in corruption cases highlights the need for increased vigilance and action against corrupt practices in the state. The ACB's efforts to crack down on corruption are a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done to eradicate corruption from the system.
