Bombay HC Orders Reinspection of MCA Eateries

The Bombay High Court has directed the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to reinspect five eateries at the Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) premises in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) after serious hygiene violations were found during an earlier inspection.

The MCA's senior counsel, Vikram Nankani, argued that the FDA should have first issued an improvement notice, giving the eateries an opportunity to rectify the deficiencies.

However, the bench stated that an improvement notice was not necessary in cases involving gross violations of hygiene standards. The court also questioned whether the cricketers using the facility were aware that they were being served tea that may have been contaminated with cockroaches and flies.

The court has permitted the MCA to provide tea and coffee to players through vending machines, but has made it clear that no other activity will be permitted at the eateries until the deficiencies have been rectified.
