Thane Municipal Corporation Elects 9 Ward Committee Chairpersons

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has elected chairpersons for all 9 ward committees. The elections took place on Tuesday at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hall inside the civic headquarters.

Out of the nine ward committees, eight chairpersons were elected unopposed. The Mumbra Ward Committee chairperson's seat was the only one to witness a contest.

Thane District Collector Dr. Shrikrishna Panchal presided over the election process as the Presiding Officer, accompanied by Municipal Secretary Manish Joshi. The dignitaries present at the event included Mayor Sharmila Pimpalolkar, MLA Ravindra Phatak, MLA Rajesh More, and Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao.

The eight unopposed chairpersons are: Ekta Eknath Bhoir for the Wagle Ward Committee, Nirmala Kanse for the Lokmanya Savarkarnagar Ward Committee, Minal Mukund Sankhe for the Naupada-Kopri Ward Committee, Jayashree Jerry David (Gaykar) for the Vartaknagar Ward Committee, Siddharth Dilip Owalekar for the Majiwada-Manpada Ward Committee, Narayan Shankar Pawar for the Uthalsar Ward Committee, Vijaya Manoj Lase for the Kalwa Ward Committee, and Deepak Namdev Jadhav for the Diva Ward Committee.

The election for the chairperson of the Mumbra Ward Committee was contested between Deepali Motiram Bhagat of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Ansari Nafis Ahmad Mohammad Anis of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). Deepali Motiram Bhagat secured 10 votes, while Ansari Nafis Ahmad Mohammad Anis secured 4 votes. With a clear majority, Deepali Motiram Bhagat was declared the winner and elected Chairperson of the Mumbra Ward Committee.

Following the announcement of the results, the newly elected ward committee chairpersons were felicitated by the dignitaries present. They were given flower bouquets and best wishes for a successful tenure.
