Swatantra Bharadwaj Sent To 14-Day Judicial Custody

Swatantra Bharadwaj, a self-styled social media influencer, was sent to 14 days of judicial custody by the Patiala House Court on Monday. This decision was made in connection with an alleged assault case involving Sanjay Azad, the father of a teenage Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) activist.

The court's order was passed by Additional Sessions Judge Saurabh Pratap Singh Laler after Bharadwaj was produced before the court following the expiry of his one-day police custody. Delhi Police had sought a 14-day extension of his judicial custody, citing a possible law-and-order issue as the reason for producing him through video conferencing.

Bharadwaj was detained in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr on Friday, hours after the CJP staged a protest outside the Parliament Street police station demanding his arrest in connection with the alleged assault. Following his detention, Delhi Police added provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and criminal intimidation to the FIR against Bharadwaj over the alleged assault on the minor activist's father.

A POCSO case has also been registered against him. Bharadwaj came into focus after a video podcast in which he allegedly claimed to have assaulted the father of a CJP protester went viral. He also allegedly boasted about his political connections during the podcast.

According to reports, the alleged assault victim suffered a head injury during the incident. Police initially described the injuries as simple in nature. Bharadwaj will now be produced before the court on September 21.

The case has drawn attention to the actions of social media influencers and their potential consequences. The CJP protest and subsequent arrest of Bharadwaj have sparked discussions about the limits of free speech and the importance of accountability.

The Delhi Police's decision to add provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and criminal intimidation to the FIR against Bharadwaj reflects the seriousness of the allegations against him. The registration of a POCSO case against him further underscores the gravity of the situation.

As the case unfolds, it is likely to have significant implications for social media influencers and their role in Indian society. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible behavior and the potential consequences of actions that harm others.

In conclusion, the judicial custody of Swatantra Bharadwaj marks a significant development in the alleged assault case. The case will continue to be closely watched as it progresses through the legal system.
