Thane Police Seize ₹88,000 Worth of Foreign Cigarettes and E-Cigarettes

Thane police have cracked down on an illegal trade in banned electronic cigarettes operating near Hiranandani Meadows Circle. The Anti-Extortion Cell of Thane Police raided a local betel nut shop, known as a paan tapri, and seized contraband comprising foreign-made cigarettes and nicotine-containing e-cigarettes valued at ₹88,000.

The raid was conducted on Monday evening, following a tip-off that banned e-cigarettes were being sold illicitly near the Sachin Paan Shop. A police team, led by Senior Police Inspector Shailesh Salvi and Assistant Police Inspector Bhushan Kapadnis, laid a trap in the area and intercepted the shop operator, 35-year-old Anil Ravi Karkare.

During the operation, officers searched a khaki box being carried by Karkare and found foreign-made cigarettes of the ESSESE brand valued at ₹21,800, alongside nicotine-infused e-cigarettes from popular brands including IGET, Elf Bar Raya D1, Lost Mary, and Yoto Lens, valued at ₹66,000.

A case has been registered against Karkare at the Chitalasar Police Station under Sections 4 and 7 of the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019. Samples from the seized contraband have been sealed, and the remaining stash has been secured as evidence. Further investigation is underway.
