Landslides Hit Mumbai-Nashik, Mumbai-Goa Highways
Two landslides occurred on Mumbai-Nashik and Mumbai-Goa highways, disrupting traffic. No casualties reported.

A significant landslide occurred on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway at the old Kasara Ghat on Monday morning, causing disruption to vehicular movement on the stretch. The landslide, which was triggered by a natural event, resulted in soil, rocks, and trees crashing onto the roadway, partially blocking the route.
The incident happened when a portion of a hillside collapsed, and rescue teams were quickly deployed to the scene to launch clearance operations. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated that the damage would be repaired and emphasized that there is a 'defect liability period' after construction work, during which the concerned agency is responsible for addressing any technical issues that arise.
Another landslide was reported near Dhamandevi in the Parshuram Ghat section of the Mumbai-Goa Highway, where a large quantity of soil and boulders crashed onto the highway, forcing authorities to close one lane between Dhamandevi and Parshuram Ghat. The district administration and highway authorities immediately launched a clearance operation using JCB machines to remove the debris and restore normal traffic. Vehicles were allowed to pass cautiously through the remaining open lane under the supervision of police personnel, and no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
The landslides have sparked concerns about the safety of commuters and vehicles passing through these stretches, particularly with heavy rainfall continuing across the Konkan region and the Western Ghats. Authorities have advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel through ghat sections and remain alert, as persistent rain has increased the risk of landslides and road blockages across several highways in Maharashtra. Minister Bawankule also noted that some people are quick to criticize every issue, but there are agencies responsible for addressing such issues, and they are following the process.
The clearance work is currently underway, and authorities are working to restore normal traffic flow on the affected highways. The incidents have highlighted the need for caution and vigilance, especially during the monsoon season, when the risk of landslides and road blockages is higher. Commuters are advised to check for updates on traffic conditions before embarking on their journeys and to exercise caution when traveling through ghat sections.
In the coming days, authorities are expected to continue monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures to ensure the safety of commuters. The 'defect liability period' will be crucial in determining the responsibility for the repairs and ensuring that the concerned agencies take necessary actions to prevent such incidents in the future. With the monsoon season expected to continue, commuters are advised to remain alert and cautious when traveling on the affected highways.
