Maharashtra Universities Adopt Common Academic Calendar

Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil has directed all public universities in the state to adopt a common academic calendar from the academic year 2026-27. This move aims to ensure effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP).

The minister chaired an online meeting with vice-chancellors of all public universities in Maharashtra, where various issues concerning higher education in the state were reviewed. Patil directed vice-chancellors and pro-vice-chancellors to interact with at least 50 students once a week to understand their academic concerns and difficulties.

To implement the NEP effectively, universities have been asked to identify clusters of colleges and promote sharing of resources among institutions within these clusters. A workshop will be held for heads of examination controller departments to study the implementation of NEP in other states.

Each university has been asked to conduct at least one cluster activity every month. The minister also directed authorities to introduce a common academic calendar for all public universities from the academic year 2026-27, which should be finalised within a week.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) workload norms will be followed to ensure greater uniformity among universities. Universities have been asked to introduce uniformity in necessary courses as well.

Expressing concern over incidents of question paper leaks, Patil directed the department to prepare guidelines to prevent such cases. A circular will be issued fixing the responsibility of concerned officers and employees in cases of question paper leaks.
