Punekars Protest Against Loud DJs During Festivals

Punekars from the city's Peth areas and other parts of the city gathered at Goodluck Chowk and Abhinav Chowk on Saturday to protest against the excessive noise generated by DJs, amplifiers, and sound systems during religious festivals.

The protest, which began at 10:30 am at Abhinav Chowk and 11 am at Goodluck Chowk, saw around 250-300 citizens participating, with 170-190 signing a petition that will be submitted to the Commissioner of Police. The protesters made it clear that their opposition was not to any religion, caste, community, or festival, but to the growing culture of extremely loud music during public celebrations.

According to Pallavi Kumar, a protester at Goodluck Chowk, the issue is not about being against any religion or festival, but about the unbearable noise created by DJs and sound systems. She questioned why an entire neighborhood should suffer due to the loud music.

Rudra, a science student who participated in the protest, emphasized that the issue should not be reduced to a difference in musical preferences. He stated that extremely loud DJ sound affects people who live nearby, those who have to work, study, or sleep, and can even lead to deafness.
