PM Modi Inaugurates Western Dedicated Freight Corridor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the remaining three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) in Vadodara, Gujarat. This move marks the completion of India's freight rail network, linking eastern, northern, and western regions.

The WDFC project was first proposed in 2004, but it remained stuck in files for years. PM Modi criticized the previous UPA government for the delay, stating that not even one kilometer of the freight corridor was completed in seven or eight years.

The Dedicated Freight Corridor has significantly reduced freight travel time, lowered transportation costs, and helped cut fuel consumption. Over 400 freight trains are now operating daily on the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors.

The 326 route-km sections of the WDFC were built at a cost of more than Rs 20,700 crore. The sections include New Sanand North-New Makarpura, New Umbergaon-New Saphale, and New Saphale-New JNPT.

PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for three railway projects: Vadodara–Ratlam third and fourth railway lines, Miyagam Karjan–Choranda–Malsar gauge conversion, and Vishwamitri–Dabhoi railway doubling.

The completion of the WDFC is expected to strengthen India's infrastructure, creating new opportunities and powering economic growth.
