A fatal accident occurred on August 18 in Mankhurd, Mumbai, when a 52-year-old two-wheeler rider, Suresh Narayan Shetty, was killed after a crane allegedly rammed into his scooter on Veer Jijamata Bhosale Marg at MHADA PMGP.

The incident took place at around 11:15 am when police constable Pravin Abasaheb Mane was on duty with his colleague on Beat Marshal 2. They noticed a traffic jam near Mayur Society, Building No. 101, and upon reaching the spot, found that an ACE company crane had collided with an Activa scooter.

Shetty, a resident of Juhugaon, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, was found lying unconscious near the front left wheel of the crane with serious injuries to his right hand and chest. He was immediately shifted to Shatabdi Hospital in an autorickshaw with the assistance of local residents, but was declared dead before admission.

The Mankhurd police have registered an FIR against crane driver Sajid Ansari, 36, for allegedly driving the crane recklessly and negligently. Ansari, a resident of Jarimari in Kurla West, was detained and taken to the police station for further investigation.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on Constable Mane's complaint. Further investigation is underway, an official said.
