Ministry Extends NMMSS Scholarship Deadline To September 30

The Ministry of Education has extended the deadline for submitting applications for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) 2026-27 to September 30, 2026. The applications are being accepted through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) since June 1.

The extension also applies to the timelines for verification of applications by Institute Nodal Officers (INOs) and District Nodal Officers (DNOs). Students who have already submitted their applications should ensure that their applications are verified by the concerned authorities within the revised deadlines.

To apply for the NMMSS scholarship, selected students are required to complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the National Scholarship Portal. After completing OTR, students can apply for the scholarship through the NSP. The scholarship amount is ₹12,000 per annum, which is transferred directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism.

The eligibility criteria for the NMMSS scholarship include a parental income not exceeding ₹3.50 lakh per annum and securing at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade in Class VII. The minimum marks requirement is relaxed by 5% for SC/ST students. The scholarship is available only to students studying in State Government, Government-aided and local body schools.

After students submit their applications, the scholarship applications undergo two levels of verification on the NSP. The deadline for Level 1 (L1) verification by the Institute Nodal Officer (INO) is October 15, 2026, and the deadline for Level 2 (L2) verification by the District Nodal Officer (DNO) is October 31, 2026.

The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme is implemented by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education. The scheme aims to reduce the drop-out rate of students from economically weaker sections and to encourage them to continue their education.

The revised important dates for the NMMSS scholarship are as follows:

Last Date to Submit Scholarship Application: September 30, 2026

Last Date for INO Verification (L1): October 15, 2026

Last Date for DNO Verification (L2): October 31, 2026

Students are advised to submit their applications by September 30 and track their application status to ensure that the required verification is completed.

The extension of the deadline and the revised verification timelines will provide more time for students to apply for the NMMSS scholarship and for the authorities to verify the applications. This will help to ensure that more students from economically weaker sections can benefit from the scholarship scheme.

The NMMSS scholarship scheme is an important initiative by the Ministry of Education to support the education of students from economically weaker sections. The scheme has been successful in reducing the drop-out rate of students and encouraging them to continue their education.

In conclusion, the extension of the deadline for the NMMSS scholarship and the revised verification timelines will provide more opportunities for students to apply for the scholarship and benefit from it. Students are advised to submit their applications by September 30 and track their application status to ensure that the required verification is completed.

The Ministry of Education's decision to extend the deadline and revise the verification timelines is a positive step towards supporting the education of students from economically weaker sections. It is expected that more students will benefit from the NMMSS scholarship scheme as a result of this decision.

Overall, the NMMSS scholarship scheme is an important initiative by the Ministry of Education to support the education of students from economically weaker sections. The extension of the deadline and the revised verification timelines will provide more opportunities for students to apply for the scholarship and benefit from it.
