Kalyan Police Arrest Vehicle Thief, Recover ₹6.35 Lakh Stolen Motorcycles

A significant breakthrough was achieved by the Khadakpada Police in Kalyan with the arrest of a most-wanted habitual offender involved in a series of motorcycle thefts across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The accused, identified as Abbas Shahjor Sayyed, 25, was apprehended after an intensive investigation, leading to the recovery of nine stolen two-wheelers valued at ₹6.35 lakh.

The arrest has helped solve eight vehicle theft cases registered in the jurisdictions of Kalyan, Thane City, Murbad, and Khadakpada police stations. Investigators revealed that the accused was also wanted in connection with three property-related offences, including robbery cases, registered with Kapurbawdi and Badlapur police stations.

The investigation began after a motorcycle worth ₹40,000 was stolen on August 4 from the Gandhari area near the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) solid waste depot. The motorcycle owner lodged a complaint at the Khadakpada Police Station, prompting a special investigation team to launch a detailed probe.

The team, led by Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Khedkar, analysed CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas, examined technical evidence, and relied on confidential intelligence inputs to identify the suspect. Within 24 hours of the theft being reported, police received credible information indicating the involvement of Abbas Sayyed, a known repeat offender.

A combing operation was launched in the Gandhari locality, resulting in the accused's arrest. Abbas Sayyed, a resident of Malang Nagar, Irani Basti near Ambivli railway station, was taken into custody, and the stolen motorcycle was recovered from his possession.

Following his arrest, the accused was produced before a court in Kalyan, which remanded him to police custody for further investigation. During sustained interrogation, police recovered nine stolen motorcycles worth ₹6.35 lakh, allegedly stolen from different locations. The recoveries enabled investigators to detect eight pending vehicle theft cases spread across multiple police jurisdictions.

Officials stated that Abbas Sayyed had been on the radar of both the Mumbai Police and Thane Police for his alleged involvement in multiple property offences. His arrest is expected to provide crucial leads into other unsolved crimes and the possible involvement of additional members of an organised vehicle theft network.
