Gujarat Governor Urges Farmers To Adopt Natural Farming

Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat on Tuesday urged farmers to adopt natural farming, warning that continued dependence on chemical fertilisers and pesticides could damage soil and water resources.

During a two-day visit to Anand district, Devvrat visited a natural farm in Boriyavi village, where he inspected crops, milked a cow, and ploughed the field. He interacted with local farmers, explaining the benefits of natural farming methods such as Jeevamrut and Ghan Jeevamrut.

Devvrat expressed concerns over the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides, stating that they destroy useful earthworms and microorganisms in agricultural soil. He noted that forests do not require chemical fertilisers to flourish, and that natural farming makes the soil fertile and allows rainwater to seep directly into the soil.

The Governor warned that if chemical farming continues, it could lead to a lack of fertile soil and clean drinking water for future generations. He argued that natural farming can increase agricultural production, as higher organic carbon in the soil can improve crop yields.

Devvrat also highlighted the cost benefits of natural farming, describing it as a cow-based system in which cattle provide both milk and manure for agriculture. He noted that several farmers in Gujarat are using a five-tier model of natural farming and earning lakhs of rupees annually with relatively low labour and input costs.

The Governor urged farmers to abandon chemical farming, stating that its use pollutes the environment, damages soil and water, and potentially exposes people to serious health problems. He recalled his own experience of adopting natural farming, after which his land regained its fertility.

Earlier, the Governor had spent the night in an ordinary room at a primary school in Samarkha village, where he joined students, teachers, and villagers for a yoga and pranayama session. He led subtle exercises, stating that yoga increases physical flexibility and improves blood circulation.

The Governor's promotion of natural farming is part of a broader effort to encourage sustainable agricultural practices in Gujarat. The state has been actively promoting natural farming methods, with several initiatives aimed at reducing the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides.

The adoption of natural farming methods can have significant benefits for the environment, soil health, and human health. By promoting natural farming, the Governor aims to encourage farmers to move away from chemical farming and adopt more sustainable practices.

In conclusion, the Governor's visit to Anand district highlights the importance of adopting natural farming methods. By promoting sustainable agricultural practices, the state can reduce its reliance on chemical fertilisers and pesticides, and promote a healthier environment for future generations.
