UP Govt Approves Rs 2,380 Crore For 1,070 Irrigation Projects

The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is prioritizing water security through major irrigation and flood control projects.

In the financial year 2026-27, the government has approved approximately Rs 2,380.69 crore for 1,070 irrigation projects, including both new and ongoing projects.

This move aims to provide relief to farmers and the general public by enhancing irrigation facilities and protecting against floods.

Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh recently reviewed the progress of these projects and emphasized the importance of timely completion and quality construction work.

He instructed officials to conduct field inspections and physical verifications to ensure that the intended benefits are reaching farmers, villagers, and the general public.

The government has also sanctioned Rs 1,009.99 crore for flood protection projects, with 244 projects already completed, strengthening flood safety measures in affected areas.

Four major projects completed in the previous financial year have created or restored 39,250 hectares of irrigation capacity, benefiting nearly 40,000 farmers in Maharajganj, Kannauj, Unnao, and Lalitpur districts.

The Second Phase of the Madhya Ganga Project has also seen significant progress, with the completion of gaps in the Chandausi Branch Canal, creating an irrigation capacity of 57,000 hectares.

This will provide improved irrigation facilities to farmers, helping to increase agricultural productivity.

The minister's directives aim to ensure that project reviews are based on actual field inspections, rather than just paper reports.

The government's focus on water security and irrigation infrastructure is expected to have a positive impact on the state's agricultural sector and provide relief to farmers and residents in flood-prone areas.

The completion of these projects will not only improve irrigation facilities but also strengthen flood safety measures, ultimately contributing to the overall development of the state.

The Uttar Pradesh government's efforts to enhance water security and irrigation infrastructure are a significant step towards addressing the state's agricultural and flood-related challenges.

The successful completion of these projects will have a lasting impact on the state's economy and the lives of its residents.
