MSRTC Buses Lack First Aid Kits, Wi-Fi, Charging Ports

A recent inspection at the Vallabh Nagar depot in Pimpri-Chinchwad city has revealed that many Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses lack basic amenities such as first aid kits, Wi-Fi, and charging ports.

Under the Motor Vehicles Act, it is mandatory for buses to have first aid kits, mobile charging points, free Wi-Fi, and fire extinguishers. However, the reality is that many of these facilities are either missing or not functioning.

Approximately 6,000 passengers commute daily from the Vallabh Nagar depot, but many of the buses do not have first aid kits. In fact, nearly eight out of every 10 MSRTC buses are missing these kits. In the buses where the kits are available, they are often empty or covered in dust.

The first aid kits are supposed to contain essential items such as antiseptic cream, bandages, cotton, Dettol or Savlon liquid, medical tape, and painkiller tablets. However, passengers have complained that these items are not available, even in cases of minor injuries.

Passengers also face difficulties in charging their mobile phones during long journeys. Many of the older ST buses do not have charging ports, while the modern Shivshahi buses have charging points that are often out of order. The new Shivaai buses have charging ports, but they are not functioning.

The MSRTC had announced that it would provide free Wi-Fi service on buses, but this service is not available at the Vallabh Nagar depot. Passengers can lodge a complaint with the depot manager if they do not receive these facilities.

Vaishali Kamble, in-charge of Vallabh Nagar Depot, has stated that clear instructions have been given to conductors to regularly check the first aid kits. The depot will prepare a list of buses that are missing first aid kits and take immediate action to install new kits.

The lack of basic amenities in MSRTC buses is a cause for concern, especially for passengers who may require medical attention during their journey. The MSRTC needs to take immediate action to address this issue and provide the necessary facilities to its passengers.
