NFR Cracks Down on Ticketless Travel

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reported a significant improvement in its ticket checking performance for the month of June 2026. The railway zone conducted intensive ticket checking drives across its stations and trains, resulting in the detection of 1,14,633 passengers traveling without tickets or with irregular tickets.

This number represents a 25% increase from the 91,717 passengers detected in June 2025. The sustained enforcement efforts led to the collection of Rs 14.44 crore in fare and excess charges, a 59% increase from the Rs 9.10 crore collected during the same month last year.

Out of the total detections, 81,744 passengers were found traveling without tickets, generating Rs 11.85 crore in fare and excess charges. Additionally, 32,889 passengers were detected traveling with irregular tickets, contributing Rs 2.59 crore to the revenue. The railway also collected Rs 46.84 lakh through non-penalty cases during the month.

The success of the campaign can be attributed to the 377 intensive ticket checking drives conducted across the zone, a significant increase from the 349 drives conducted in June 2025. Ticket checking staff covered 3,289 trains, demonstrating the railway's enhanced focus on vigilance and revenue protection.

The cumulative performance during the first quarter of 2026-27 has also been encouraging. From April to June 2026, NFR detected 3,35,040 cases of ticketless and irregular travel, generating Rs 39.56 crore through fare and excess charges. This represents a significant increase from the 2,37,256 cases and Rs 22.78 crore reported during the corresponding period of 2025-26.

The railway's Commercial Department, ticket checking staff, and field officials have been conducting regular surprise inspections and special drives to discourage ticketless and irregular travel. The NFR has once again appealed to passengers to travel only with valid tickets, carry proper travel authority, and book excess luggage as per railway rules.

The railway's efforts to curb ticketless travel are aimed at providing a fair travel environment for genuine passengers. By traveling with valid tickets, passengers can help ensure a safe, transparent, and comfortable travel experience for all.

The NFR's ticket checking initiatives have been effective in generating revenue and promoting transparency in railway operations. The railway's commitment to ensuring transparent ticketing practices is a positive step towards strengthening the efficiency and financial sustainability of its operations.

In conclusion, the Northeast Frontier Railway's intensive ticket checking drives have been successful in detecting ticketless travel and generating revenue. The railway's efforts to promote transparency and fairness in ticketing practices are commendable, and passengers are urged to cooperate by traveling with valid tickets and following railway rules.

The success of the NFR's ticket checking initiatives has significant implications for the railway's operations and revenue. By reducing ticketless travel, the railway can generate more revenue and improve its services. The NFR's efforts are a positive step towards providing a better travel experience for passengers and promoting transparency in railway operations.

Overall, the Northeast Frontier Railway's commitment to curbing ticketless travel and promoting transparency in ticketing practices is a welcome move. The railway's efforts are aimed at providing a safe, comfortable, and fair travel experience for all passengers, and its success in detecting ticketless travel and generating revenue is a significant achievement.
