MP Identifies 23 Ram Van Gaman Sites, Plans ₹5,289-Crore Chitrakoot Revamp

The Madhya Pradesh government has identified 23 places across nine districts that are connected to the exile period of Lord Ram, Sita, and Laxman. These sites are located in Chitrakoot, Satna, Panna, Jabalpur, Umaria, Shahdol, and Anuppur districts.

The government has conducted a survey under the Ram Gaman Path project to ascertain the facts about these sites. The identified places include Sphatik Shila, Gupt Godavari, Atri Ashram, and Ram Janki Mandir in Chitrakoot and Satna districts.

Other sites include Brahaspati Kund, Sutiskna Ashram, and Agastya Ashram in Panna district, Shiv Mandir in Kanti, Ramghat in Jabalpur, and Markandeya Ashram in Umaria district. The government is now considering asking the collectors of these districts to verify the facts about these sites.

The urban development department has submitted a proposal of ₹5,289 crore for the integrated development of Chitrakoot. The project includes six major works worth ₹418.88 crore under the Public Participation Project (PPP) and five schemes worth ₹211.74 crore under the Urban Challenge Fund.

The development plan aims to provide an array of facilities for visitors, including better infrastructure, amenities, and services. Chitrakoot has six places connected to Lord Shri Ram, including Kamadgiri, Ramghat, and Sphatik Shila. A survey was conducted to assess the footfall at these places, which revealed an average daily footfall of 20,000 in the base year 2024.

The average annual footfall was 85,000 in 2024, and it is projected to increase to 1,45,00,000 by 2054. The survey also revealed the absence of drinking water facilities at the Sati Anusuiya temple premises.
