BMC Employees Arrested in ₹60,000 Bribery Case

A sub-engineer and another staffer from the K/West ward of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have been booked and apprehended by the Mumbai Unit of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly demanding a bribe from a bakery businessman.

The accused have been identified as Niravkumar Jaisur, a 43-year-old sub-engineer, and Vijay Patil, a 46-year-old staffer at the K/West Ward. According to the ACB, the 50-year-old complainant wanted to continue operating his bakery business without facing any regulatory action against it.

Vijay Patil allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹70,000 from the complainant, which was later negotiated to ₹60,000 by Jaisur. The complainant lodged a complaint with the ACB on Wednesday, after which a verification process was conducted.

During the verification process, it was established that Vijay Patil had demanded a bribe of ₹70,000 from the complainant and had arranged a meeting with his senior officer, Sub-Engineer Jaisur. Jaisur then demanded a bribe of ₹60,000 from the complainant.

The ACB conducted a trap operation on Wednesday, during which Vijay Patil was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹60,000 from the complainant near the ground floor elevator of the K/West Ward Office. Jaisur was taken into custody from his office, and his personal search resulted in the seizure of two mobile phones.

The personal search of Vijay Patil yielded one mobile phone and cash worth ₹40,820. Additionally, cash worth ₹2,37,600 was found inside his bag. The ACB has booked the two employees under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
