Honey-Trap Gang Busted In Bhopal, 3 Arrested For ₹70,000 Extortion

A suspected honey-trap gang was busted in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, after they extorted approximately ₹70,000 from a man. The incident occurred on August 3, when the victim, a married man from Barkhedi Khurd, was in a hotel room with a woman.

Four individuals, posing as policemen, entered the room and threatened to take action against the couple. One of the accused offered to help the man, and in doing so, allegedly pressured him into paying ₹70,000.

The man became suspicious after the incident and approached the Piplani police station, which led to an investigation. Sub Inspector Santosh Raghuvanshi stated that three suspects, Abuzar, Raghuveer, and Karuna Shahi, were arrested on Tuesday, while the fourth accused, Yawar, is absconding.

The arrested suspects have been taken into police remand to determine if they had extorted money from other individuals in the same manner. The role of the woman who was with the complainant is under investigation, as police are trying to ascertain whether she was in contact with the accused and part of the extortion racket.

Police are also examining CCTV footage from the hotel, and preliminary investigations suggest that the case could be linked to a honey-trap style extortion racket. Furthermore, it was discovered that the girl with the complainant was a minor, leading to the registration of a case against the complainant under the POCSO Act and BNS provisions.

The Piplani police station incharge, Chandrika Yadav, confirmed that a case had been registered. The incident highlights the need for increased vigilance and awareness about such scams.
