Central Railway's Solapur Division Starts Automobile Loading

The Solapur Division of Central Railway has commenced automobile loading from Bhigwan Goods Shed, marking a significant boost to freight business and customer-oriented logistics services. This development adds a new stream of freight traffic for the Division.

The first New Modified Goods (NMG) rake carrying automobiles was loaded on 19th July 2026 from Bhigwan to B.R. Transcon Limited Goods Cargo Terminal, Rangiya Division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) in Assam’s Kamrup district.

As many as 26 indents for automobile loading through NMG rakes have already been registered from Bhigwan to multiple destinations across the country. These destinations include Fatuha, Danapur Division of East Central Railway (ECR) in Bihar’s Patna district, Raipur, Raipur Division of South East Central Railway (SECR) in Chattisgarh’s Raipur district, and Farakhanagar, Delhi Division of Northern Railway (NR) in Haryana’s Gurugram district.

The expected freight revenue from each rake is estimated to range between ₹16 lakh and ₹22 lakh, indicating immense potential for sustained freight growth and enhanced revenue generation.

The commencement of automobile loading marks another milestone in the transformation of Bhigwan Goods Shed into a versatile freight handling terminal. The handling line at Bhigwan was earlier utilised exclusively for ballast handling. In May 2024, it was opened for commercial freight customers, following which coal unloading commenced in May 2024 and iron bar unloading began in January 2026.

To further improve freight handling capabilities, the circulating area and approach road were developed, providing better infrastructure and seamless access for freight customers.

The successful commencement of this new avenue was achieved under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Solapur. The initiative was spearheaded through the coordinated efforts of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr. DCM) Shri Jaydeep Pradakshine, Senior Divisional Operations Manager (Sr. DOM) Shri Yogesh Patil, and other officials.

This development is expected to contribute significantly to the Division's freight earnings and enhance revenue generation. The Solapur Division of Central Railway has demonstrated its commitment to providing customer-oriented logistics services and boosting freight business.
