US Ambassador Sergio Gor Visits Thiksey Monastery

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor visited the Thiksey Monastery in Ladakh on Friday, as part of his two-day visit to India. The monastery, situated in Leh, the capital of Ladakh, is a centuries-old Buddhist monastery affiliated with the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism.

One of the main attractions of the monastery is the Maitreya Temple, which commemorates the visit of the 14th Dalai Lama to the monastery in 1970. The temple features a 15-metre high statue of Maitreya, the largest such statue in Ladakh.
