Jogeshwari Junction To Launch Outstation Train Services

Mumbai's Jogeshwari Junction is set to launch outstation train services from January 2027, as announced by Western Railway General Manager Ramashray Pandey. This development is part of a larger plan to transform the station into a modern multi-modal transit hub.

The announcement was made during a review meeting with BJP MP Ravindra Waikar to discuss pending railway projects in the Mumbai North West Lok Sabha constituency. Senior Western Railway officials and local representatives attended the meeting, where several key projects were reviewed.

One of the major projects discussed was the Goregaon-Borivali Harbour Line extension, a 7.08-km project costing Rs 898.29 crore. The project is progressing as scheduled and is expected to be completed by March 2029, significantly enhancing the capacity of Mumbai's suburban railway network.

In addition to the Harbour Line extension, several other passenger amenity projects were discussed. An additional lift at Andheri railway station is expected to become operational by October 2026, while two new escalators are slated for completion by June 2027. An additional escalator at Jogeshwari station is also scheduled to be completed by June 2027.

The meeting also reviewed platform extension works to facilitate 15-coach suburban trains. The Andheri platform expansion has been completed, and 15-coach services are already operational. Extension work on the slow corridor between Bandra and Andheri is underway, with services expected to begin from January 2027.

The proposed redevelopment of Jogeshwari Junction aims to seamlessly integrate railway, Metro, and other modes of public transport. Parking facilities for cars and two-wheelers have been planned, while commercial facilities such as a hotel and mall may be added in the second phase if found feasible.

Other issues discussed during the meeting included the installation of an escalator on the Subhash Nagar foot overbridge, improving the cleanliness of station toilets, developing waiting rooms and breastfeeding rooms, strengthening RPF deployment, expanding ambulance services, and conducting a joint inspection of Andheri and Jogeshwari stations.

The development of Jogeshwari Junction into a multi-modal transit hub is expected to significantly improve the commuting experience for passengers. With the launch of outstation train services and the integration of various modes of public transport, the hub is poised to become a major transportation hub in Mumbai.

The project is also expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, with the potential for increased commercial activity and job creation. As Mumbai continues to grow and develop, the need for efficient and integrated transportation systems becomes increasingly important.

In conclusion, the launch of outstation train services from Jogeshwari Junction and the development of a multi-modal transit hub are significant developments for Mumbai's transportation infrastructure. With several key projects underway, the city is poised to become an even more connected and accessible place to live and work.

The Western Railway's efforts to improve passenger amenities and expand the city's transportation network are a welcome step towards making Mumbai a more livable and sustainable city. As the city continues to grow and evolve, it is essential that its transportation infrastructure keeps pace, providing efficient and integrated services to meet the needs of its citizens.

With the completion of these projects, Mumbai is expected to become an even more attractive destination for businesses, tourists, and residents alike. The city's transportation infrastructure is a critical component of its overall development, and the Western Railway's efforts to improve it are a significant step in the right direction.

Overall, the development of Jogeshwari Junction into a multi-modal transit hub is a significant milestone for Mumbai's transportation infrastructure. With its launch, the city is poised to become an even more connected and accessible place to live and work, with a transportation network that is efficient, integrated, and sustainable.
