Maharashtra To Use Corpus Fund For Poor Patients' Organ Transplants

Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar has instructed officials to utilize the corpus fund to support organ transplant surgeries for poor and needy patients when the cost exceeds the amount available under government health schemes.

Abitkar directed officials to enhance coordination between private hospitals and government health schemes to deliver better healthcare services to patients.

Additionally, plans are underway to establish a diagnostic centre at Gargoti in Kolhapur district, which will offer services like CT scans, X-rays, and ECG at affordable rates, reducing the need for patients to travel to Pune or Mumbai.

The meeting also discussed setting up an advanced proton therapy facility in Pune at a lower cost, as this treatment is currently only available in Mumbai, making it inaccessible to many patients.
