Jalgaon Collector Calls For Sensitive Approach To Empower Transgenders

Jalgaon District Collector Rohan Ghuge has called for a sensitive approach to empower the transgender community, combining government schemes with empathy and understanding of their challenges.

A one-day district-level guidance camp was organized on Thursday by the Office of the Assistant Commissioner, Social Welfare, Jalgaon, to guide the transgender community on various government schemes, self-employment opportunities, and ways to avail government services.

Representatives from banks and financial corporations provided guidance on loan facilities, seed capital schemes, grants, and various subsidy programs. Details of transgender individuals present were collected to facilitate the issuance of Ayushman Bharat cards.

Shamibha Patil, Co-chairperson of the Divisional Committee, highlighted the challenges faced by the transgender community, including education, employment, healthcare, housing, access to government schemes, and societal treatment. Patil urged the administration to move beyond merely acknowledging these issues on paper and called for concrete action to resolve them.

Officials from various departments attended the camp, including Ranjit Kumawat, Prajakta Kedar, Dr. Ramesh Thapte, Bharat Jadhav, and Dipali Rajput. Notable attendees from the transgender community included Seema Jaan Guru and Naina Bhagwan Patil.
