JCB Driver Booked for Injuring Student in Vidyavihar Demolition

A 17-year-old student, Deven Jain, was seriously injured when an iron C-channel fell onto the road and struck him during a BMC road-widening and eviction drive in Vidyavihar (East) on August 25. The incident occurred at around 3.20 pm on Station Road near Chamunda Jewellers.

The student, a first-year B.Com student at S.K. Somaiya College, was returning home with his cousin Pratham Jain when the incident happened. A JCB was being used to demolish a shop as part of the BMC's road-widening operation when the iron C-channel suddenly became dislodged and flew towards the road.

Deven suffered serious injuries above his right eye and was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital with the assistance of local residents. His father, Vinod Bhimrao Jain, a scrap dealer from Bhandup West, reached the hospital after being informed about the incident.

The Tilak Nagar police have registered a case against JCB operator Mehtab Mehdi Hasan, 25, for allegedly causing serious injuries to Deven due to negligence. The preliminary inquiry indicated that the demolition work was being carried out without adequate safety measures to protect pedestrians.

The JCB, bearing registration number MH-03-ER-7021, was being operated by Mehtab Hasan when the metal channel flew from the structure being demolished and hit the teenager. Deven remains under treatment at Rajawadi Hospital, while further investigation is underway.
