Electronics Stocks Rise 2% As Govt Approves ₹7,877 Crore Projects

On August 18, the government approved 31 fresh projects worth ₹7,877 crore under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), boosting investor interest in the sector.

The latest approvals take the total number of sanctioned projects to 106 across five tranches, with cumulative investments crossing ₹69,000 crore. This surpasses the original investment target of ₹59,000 crore.

Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the scheme has already surpassed its original investment target. The approved projects cover a broad range of products, including camera and display modules, connectors, anode materials, and rare earth permanent magnets.

Among the companies receiving approvals are Jyoti CNC Automation, Micromax Precision Moulding, and Wipro Global Engineering. The latest investments are expected to generate production worth ₹82,243 crore and create nearly 10,000 jobs.

The new investments are spread across 10 states and aim to increase domestic value addition while reducing India's reliance on imported components. Wipro Global is expanding its investment in copper-clad laminate, a component facing supply shortages.

Quantum Magnetics has received approval to manufacture rare earth permanent magnets, a strategically important segment currently dominated by China. Several companies have also received approvals for capital goods manufacturing, supporting efforts to build domestic production capabilities.

Vaishnaw emphasized the need for the electronics industry to focus on design capabilities, indigenous supply chains, and workforce development to remain globally competitive. He urged companies to develop “Swadeshi” supply chains by identifying locally produced components and sub-components.

Stronger domestic sourcing can create jobs, improve supply-chain resilience, and support long-term growth in India's electronics manufacturing sector. The government's push for domestic supply chains is expected to have a positive impact on the industry.

The approvals are a significant step towards achieving the government's goal of increasing domestic electronics manufacturing. With the latest investments, the sector is expected to see significant growth and job creation in the coming years.

The government's efforts to promote domestic electronics manufacturing are in line with its goal of reducing reliance on imported components. The approvals are expected to boost the sector's growth and create new opportunities for companies and workers alike.

In conclusion, the government's approval of 31 fresh projects under the ECMS is a significant development for the electronics manufacturing sector in India. The investments are expected to generate production worth ₹82,243 crore and create nearly 10,000 jobs, contributing to the growth of the sector and the economy as a whole.
