Meet Tukaram Mundhe, Maharashtra's FDA Commissioner

Tukaram Mundhe, the Commissioner of Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has made headlines again after a recent crackdown on food adulteration. The operation led to the destruction of hundreds of litres of suspected adulterated milk. Mundhe is known for his strict administrative style and anti-corruption drives, earning him the reputation as one of Maharashtra's most recognised IAS officers.

Born on June 3, 1975, in Tadsona village of Beed district, Maharashtra, Mundhe completed his early schooling in a Zilla Parishad school. He then pursued higher education in Aurangabad, where he holds a bachelor's degree in history and a master's degree in political science from Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University.

Mundhe cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination in 2004, securing an All India Rank (AIR) of 20. He joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) as a 2005-batch officer of the Maharashtra cadre and underwent training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie.

Mundhe's journey to becoming an IAS officer is an inspiring one. In a recent interview, he said that his dream was initially his elder brother's, who encouraged him to become a collector. Having studied in a Zilla Parishad school, Mundhe did not fully understand the purpose of education as a child but followed his brother's guidance.

As the FDA Commissioner, Mundhe has been instrumental in cracking down on food adulteration and other illegal activities. He has warned manufacturers and sellers of Gutkha and paan masala that they will be booked under the MCOCA act if they continue to operate in Maharashtra.

Mundhe's administrative career has been defined by his principle of calling out what is wrong and accepting what is right. He believes in factual criticism and proper analysis, which has earned him respect and recognition in his field.

In conclusion, Tukaram Mundhe is a dedicated and principled IAS officer who has made a significant impact in Maharashtra. His educational qualifications, training, and experience have equipped him to take on challenging roles, and his efforts have improved the lives of many citizens. As the FDA Commissioner, Mundhe continues to work towards ensuring the safety and well-being of Maharashtra's citizens, and his contributions are a testament to his commitment to public service.

The significance of Mundhe's work extends beyond his individual achievements. It highlights the importance of effective governance and administration in ensuring the well-being of citizens.
