Madhya Pradesh Rains: 14 Districts Record Surplus Rainfall

Madhya Pradesh is experiencing an uneven monsoon season, with only 14 of its 55 districts recording surplus rainfall. The state as a whole remains 17% below normal.

The capital city, Bhopal, received overnight rainfall on Tuesday, with showers continuing throughout the morning. This is the first time the city has experienced rain in almost 10 days.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dewas has recorded the highest surplus rainfall at 460 mm, which is 55% above the normal 296.5 mm. Indore ranks second with 356.6 mm, a surplus of 27% above the normal 280.7 mm.

Other districts with above-normal rainfall include Burhanpur, Agar-Malwa, Harda, Neemuch, Sehore, Khandwa, Khargone, Ujjain, Mandsaur, and Rajgarh. Bhopal has recorded near-normal rainfall.

However, a large part of the state is still facing a rainfall shortfall. The East Madhya Pradesh subdivision has recorded a 22% deficit, while West Madhya Pradesh is relatively better with a 12% deficit.

Nine districts have received very less rainfall, including Alirajpur, Rewa, Narmadapuram, Maihar, Jhabua, Sidhi, Narsinghpur, Morena, and Datia. The situation is particularly worrying in these districts, as continued deficient rainfall could affect kharif crops, groundwater recharge, and reservoir levels.

Meteorologists say the next few weeks will be crucial for eastern Madhya Pradesh. While districts like Dewas and Indore have received significantly higher rainfall, the overall monsoon distribution across the state remains highly uneven.
