UP Govt Announces ₹1,606 Crore Medical Projects

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major investment in medical infrastructure, with 65 projects worth ₹1,606.83 crore to be implemented across various medical colleges and institutions in the state.

The projects, which include foundation laying and inauguration of new facilities, are part of the government's efforts to strengthen the medical education sector and improve healthcare facilities in the state.

Of the 65 projects, 44 involve foundation laying and are worth around ₹1,400.70 crore, while 21 involve inauguration and are worth around ₹206.13 crore. The projects cover a range of facilities, including hostels, lecture theatres, examination buildings, nursing colleges, trauma centers, and infectious disease hospitals.

One of the largest projects is the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow, which will involve constructing a 1010-bed hospital building at a cost of around ₹855.04 crore. Other notable projects include a multi-story patient attendant canteen at Gorakhpur Medical College, a new generator at Kanpur Medical College, and a new infectious disease hospital.

The government has also proposed several projects at Meerut Medical College, including upgrading the existing Level-2 Trauma Center to a 100-bed Level-1 Trauma Center and constructing an MCH Center in the Department of Pediatrics.

In addition to these projects, the government has also proposed constructing lecture theatres, libraries, and other academic facilities at Jhansi Medical College, following an increase in MBBS UG seats.

The investment in medical infrastructure is part of the government's strategy to develop academic and residential facilities in line with the expansion of medical seats.
