Goa Minister Visits Mumbai Training Institute

Mauvin Godinho, Minister for Industries, Government of Goa, recently visited the CII Multi Skills Training Institute in Mumbai to gain insights into the institute's industry-led skilling ecosystem. The visit aimed to explore opportunities to strengthen skill development initiatives in Goa.

During the visit, Godinho was briefed on CII's comprehensive approach to skill development, which includes industry partnerships, model career centres, and employment-linked training programmes. The Minister was impressed by the institute's innovative models that bridge the gap between education and employment, creating a future-ready workforce aligned with industry requirements.

The discussions focused on CII's initiatives in creating demand-driven training programmes, leveraging industry participation to enhance employability, and facilitating seamless transitions from education to employment. The delegation also explored international mobility pathways for skilled Indian talent, including specialised programmes in hospitality, manufacturing, healthcare, and emerging sectors.

Godinho appreciated CII's efforts in creating a robust skilling ecosystem that enhances employability and addresses the evolving talent requirements of industry. The Minister emphasized the importance of scientific aptitude assessment, career counselling, and job-based training in ensuring that youth acquire skills aligned with market demand.

The visit also explored opportunities for replicating similar initiatives in Goa, including the establishment of integrated skill development centres, model career centres, and international mobility hubs. The delegation discussed leveraging available government infrastructure and unused institutional spaces to establish modern, industry-driven skilling centres that can serve as hubs for employment, entrepreneurship, and international placements.

Special attention was given to initiatives promoting women entrepreneurship and home-based livelihoods through skill development, product design, packaging, branding, and market access. Godinho shared ongoing efforts to support women's self-employment through training in garment manufacturing, handicrafts, and other sectors.

The CII Multi Skills Training Institute's model of combining classroom training with hands-on industry experience has resulted in high placement rates and improved employee retention, demonstrating the effectiveness of industry-led skilling interventions. The Minister's visit highlighted the potential for similar initiatives to be replicated in Goa, providing Goan youth with access to industry-led training and employment opportunities.

The visit concluded with a discussion on expanding training programmes in high-growth sectors such as digital technologies, animation, gaming, hospitality, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing. The Minister and the CII delegation agreed to explore opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing to strengthen skill development initiatives in Goa.

In the context of India's growing economy and evolving industry requirements, the visit underscored the importance of industry-led skilling initiatives in creating a future-ready workforce. The collaboration between the Government of Goa and CII is expected to provide a boost to skill development initiatives in the state, enabling Goan youth to acquire skills that are in demand by industry and increasing their employability in both domestic and global markets.

The significance of this visit lies in its potential to create a positive impact on the lives of Goan youth, providing them with access to industry-led training and employment opportunities. As India continues to grow and evolve, the need for skilled and employable youth will only increase, making initiatives like the CII Multi Skills Training Institute crucial to the country's economic development.
