MP: 12k UDID Card Applications Pending Over 6 Months

Persons with disabilities in Madhya Pradesh are experiencing significant delays in obtaining Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards, with an average waiting period of 253 days.

According to government data presented in the Rajya Sabha, 12,213 applications in the state have been pending for more than six months, while 14,288 cases have been pending for over three months.

A total of 18,510 applications are currently pending at various stages on the UDID portal. Between 2021 and August 5, 2026, Madhya Pradesh received 4,58,156 UDID applications, with 4,02,819 cards issued and 16,396 applications rejected.

The UDID card is crucial for persons with disabilities to access government schemes and facilities, including pensions, educational benefits, and other assistance. The prolonged processing time has created administrative difficulties for beneficiaries dependent on the certificate.

Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment B.L. Verma stated that the scheduling and frequency of District Medical Board meetings depend on the requirements of state governments and hospitals and the availability of doctors.

The Centre has proposed measures to improve the processing time, including upgrading the UDID portal, linking the database with Aadhaar, and providing specialized training to doctors.

At the national level, more than 5.93 lakh applications have been pending for over six months. The average 253-day processing time in Madhya Pradesh highlights the need for faster verification and disposal of applications at the state and district levels.

The delay in issuing UDID cards has significant implications for persons with disabilities in Madhya Pradesh, affecting their access to essential government services and benefits.

The state government and the Centre must work together to address the issue and ensure that persons with disabilities receive their UDID cards in a timely manner.

This will enable them to access the necessary support and services, improving their overall well-being and quality of life.

In conclusion, the delay in issuing UDID cards in Madhya Pradesh is a pressing concern that requires immediate attention from the state government and the Centre.

By streamlining the application process and reducing the processing time, the government can ensure that persons with disabilities receive the support and services they need to lead fulfilling lives.
