Maharashtra Contractors Face ₹1,890 Crore Pending Dues Crisis

Contractors in Maharashtra are facing a severe financial crisis due to pending dues of ₹1,890 crore from various state government departments.

The Nagpur Contractors Association has alleged that repeated pleas for payment for completed development works are being ignored, leaving contractors in financial distress.

According to Subodh Sarode, president of the Nagpur Contractors Association, five contractors in the state have ended their lives due to unpaid dues.

The pending payments are under the Public Works Circle, Nagpur, and are worsening the financial condition of contractors.

Sarode has written to Public Works Minister Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale, urging the state government to release payments at the earliest.

The association has sought urgent intervention from the state government to clear outstanding bills and provide relief to contractors facing financial pressure.

Contractors are under immense mental stress due to unpaid dues to construction material suppliers, labour contractors, office staff, site engineers, and supervisors, besides bank loans and family responsibilities.

The financial condition of contractors in the Nagpur division is worsening, and some may take extreme steps if the situation is not addressed.

The state government's failure to disburse payments has left contractors desperate, and the association is seeking immediate relief to prevent further tragedies.

The crisis highlights the need for the state government to address the issue of pending dues and provide support to contractors who are struggling to survive.
