Sahar Police Arrest Bangladeshi National For Using Forged Indian Passport

A 36-year-old Bangladeshi national, identified as Babu Biswas alias Tapas Biswas, was arrested by Sahar Police at Mumbai International Airport on Sunday. The arrest was made after police became suspicious of his accent, which resembled that of a Bangladeshi national.

During interrogation, Biswas allegedly admitted to entering India illegally in 2016 along with his family through the West Bengal border. He had been living in Kolkata and had managed to obtain an Aadhaar card, PAN card, and an Indian passport using forged documents.

Biswas had previously travelled to the Maldives twice and Colombo once using the Indian passport. However, his attempt to travel abroad using the same passport was foiled at the airport, leading to his arrest.

The accused's Bangladeshi nationality was confirmed after his wife, Rakhi Biswas, sent documents, including land records from Faridpur, Bangladesh, via WhatsApp. These documents were later printed and submitted to the Immigration Wing officers, who confirmed his nationality.

According to police, Biswas had obtained an Aadhaar card and PAN card with the help of a local person in West Bengal. He also obtained an Indian passport from the Passport Office in Kolkata in 2019.
