CM Yogi Adityanath Highlights Women Empowerment on Raksha Bandhan

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the ‘Bitiya Aur Behna-UP Ka Gahna’ Snehbandhan programme on Friday, where he emphasized the significance of Raksha Bandhan in promoting economic self-reliance among local artisans and craftsmen.

The festival, he said, is not just a celebration of family and social bonds, but also a symbol of faith, trust, respect, self-respect, and self-reliance. He noted that the purchase of Rakhis, which are made by artisans and craftsmen, gives momentum to development and boosts the local economy.

Around 15 crore Rakhis are being tied across the state, and behind each one lies an economic activity involving an artisan, craftsman, shopkeeper, and the market. The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of women empowerment initiatives, including Mission Shakti, which aims to ensure the safety, dignity, and self-reliance of daughters.

He shared his experience of visiting poor families and seeing girls going to school barefoot and without uniforms, while their brothers had shoes and uniforms. This experience led him to provide girls with two sets of uniforms, bags, books, shoes, and socks, as well as sweaters during winter.

Today, around 1.60 crore children in the state are provided with these necessities every year. The Chief Minister also announced that the government has decided to extend Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas up to Class 12, and the process of constructing schools has begun in all 825 development blocks of the state.

Additionally, the number of girls in Atal Residential Schools has been increased, and admission of girls has been opened in all Sainik Schools across the country. The government’s objective is to create an environment where daughters can progress according to their abilities and potential.

The Chief Minister noted that women’s participation in employment in the state has increased significantly, from around 12% to more than 36% in recent years. Initiatives are being advanced to consolidate these gains and promote further women empowerment.
