West Bengal CM Says Dengue Under Control, Launches Cleanliness Drive

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari held a review meeting on the rise of dengue cases in the state at Swasthya Bhawan in Kolkata. He stated that the situation is under control and asked people not to panic.

The number of dengue cases has decreased this year, with 4,000 plus cases reported, compared to 7,600 plus cases last year.

From September 2 to September 5, a cleanliness drive will be conducted to increase public awareness about measures to prevent mosquito-borne diseases, including dengue.

The state government has identified five most dengue-prone districts in Bengal, including Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, and Murshidabad, and vector-control measures have been taken across these areas.

In just three months, 19,700 people have enrolled in the health schemes offered by the government. All departments have been instructed to take measures to curb and vector-control measures across these areas and will work together.

Earlier in the day, Adhikari held a meeting with journalists and asked them to ensure that no one's religious sentiments get hurt through their work.

The West Bengal Chief Minister also inaugurated social security schemes for journalists, which included health insurance and a pension for those who have attained 60 years of age.

The pension holders, journalists above 60 years of age, will now receive Rs. 5,000 instead of Rs. 2,500, as was given by the erstwhile Trinamool Congress (TMC) government.

Under the Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme, journalists who are not covered under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme will be entitled to health insurance of up to Rs. 5 lakhs.

The scheme will provide treatment in 1,900 hospitals in the state, both private and government, and also allow treatment at 38,000 hospitals across the country.

The cleanliness drive and social security schemes are part of the state government's efforts to improve public health and well-being.

The decrease in dengue cases and the launch of the cleanliness drive are significant developments in the state's efforts to control the spread of the disease.
