Mumbai Airport Customs Arrests Youth For Smuggling 2.5 Kg Hydroponic Weed

A 20-year-old man, Aryan Kapoor, was arrested by Mumbai Airport Customs officers on Tuesday for allegedly smuggling 2.5 kg of hydroponic weed from Bangkok. The accused, a resident of Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, had arrived at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) from Bangkok.

The Customs officers intercepted Kapoor after he crossed the green channel in the arrival hall, based on specific intelligence. They examined his trolley bag and found it to be unusually heavy. On further examination, they detected false cavities concealed within the walls of the bag, from which two plastic packets were recovered.

The packets contained green-coloured flowering and fruiting tops of the cannabis plant, identified as ganja (marijuana), a narcotic drug covered under the NDPS Act. The total weight of the recovered substance was 2,499 grams.

Kapoor admitted to concealing the marijuana in the false cavities of his trolley bag for monetary consideration. He was then placed under arrest.

The investigation into the case is still in its preliminary stage, with efforts being made to ascertain the source, intended recipient, financing, supply chain, and other associates involved in the smuggling of the seized narcotic substance.

Kapoor was remanded to judicial custody after his advocate, Arun Gupta, argued for him in court.
