Baloch Liberation Army Claims Major Attack on Pakistani Coast Guard Camp
The banned Baloch Liberation Army says it has killed over 30 Pakistani security personnel in a suicide attack on a Coast Guard installation in Gwadar. The group used an explosive-laden truck followed by ground assault.
The Baloch Liberation Army, a banned militant organisation, has claimed responsibility for a major suicide commando attack targeting a Pakistan Coast Guard camp in Jiwani, located in Gwadar. According to the group's claim, the assault resulted in the deaths of more than 30 security personnel and caused extensive damage to the military facility.
The BLA executed the attack using a two-pronged strategy. First, militants drove an explosives-laden truck into the Coast Guard camp, causing significant destruction. The truck bombing was immediately followed by armed commandos launching a ground assault on the compound. The BLA characterised the operation as a "fidayee" attack—a terminology commonly used by militant groups to describe suicide missions carried out by fighters willing to sacrifice their lives for their cause.
According to the group's statement, the Coast Guard installation was largely destroyed in the coordinated assault. The BLA framed the attack as part of its ongoing armed struggle for Balochistan's independence from Pakistan. The organisation has a history of conducting violent operations across Balochistan province, targeting both military and civilian infrastructure as part of its separatist campaign.
The attack underscores the persistent security challenges faced by Pakistan in its southwestern Balochistan region. The BLA and other separatist groups have conducted numerous attacks over the past decade, targeting security forces, development projects, and civilian populations. These operations have resulted in significant casualties and economic disruption across the province.
Following the claimed attack, the BLA reiterated its commitment to continuing its armed campaign against Pakistani state forces. The group views its struggle as a liberation movement aimed at achieving independence for the Baloch people. Pakistan's military and security establishment have struggled to fully suppress BLA operations despite multiple counter-insurgency efforts and military operations launched across Balochistan.
The incident reflects the volatile security situation in Pakistan's southwestern region, where multiple militant and separatist groups operate. The international community has expressed concerns about terrorism and militant activity emanating from the region, which has implications for regional stability and counterterrorism efforts across South Asia.
