Raj Thackeray Regrets Missing Meeting with Para-Athlete Dilip Gavit

MNS chief Raj Thackeray has expressed regret over not being able to meet Nashik para-athlete and Commonwealth Games gold medalist Dilip Gavit during his recent visit to the city.

The clarification came after reports said Gavit waited for nearly two hours to meet the MNS leader but returned without getting an audience. Thackeray claimed he was not informed about Gavit's visit and therefore, the meeting did not take place.

Thackeray stated that if he had known about Gavit's visit, he would have definitely met him. He also mentioned that there seems to have been some misunderstanding on the part of his team.

Gavit, who hails from Nashik, won the gold in the men’s 100m T47 final in the recently concluded Glasgow CWG. He was invited to meet Thackeray on Thursday, said his coach Vaijanath Kale.

A video showed MNS workers placating Kale and asking him to wait for some more time. However, Gavit and Kale were denied the meeting and have since left for Delhi.

Thackeray expressed his regret over the incident and stated that he will meet Gavit as soon as he returns from Delhi.

India scripted history in para athletics at the Commonwealth Games, securing a historic one-two finish in the men’s 100m T47 final as Dilip Gavit won the gold and Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath claimed the silver.

The incident has brought attention to the achievements of Indian para-athletes and the need for greater recognition and support.

Raj Thackeray's statement has been seen as an attempt to rectify the situation and show appreciation for Gavit's achievements.

The meeting between Thackeray and Gavit is expected to take place soon, and it will be seen as a gesture of goodwill and recognition of Gavit's accomplishments.

In conclusion, the incident has highlighted the importance of recognizing and supporting Indian para-athletes. It has also shown that even small gestures of appreciation can go a long way in boosting their morale and motivation.
