Pune Launches Filariasis Survey Until August 31

The Pune Municipal Corporation has launched a citywide survey to identify suspected cases of filariasis, a disease the city aims to eliminate by 2027.

The survey, which started on August 16 and will run until August 31, is part of the National Vector-Borne Disease Control Programme.

Health workers are visiting households and communities to identify people showing symptoms associated with filariasis and collect information required for further diagnosis and treatment.

Dr Vaishali Jadhav, Officer in Charge, MSU, and Assistant Health Officer in the Communicable Disease Control Department of the PMC, has urged citizens to cooperate with survey teams and provide accurate health-related information.

According to Dr Jadhav, citizens should come forward voluntarily if anyone in their household or neighbourhood shows symptoms of filariasis, as cooperation with health workers will help in timely diagnosis and ensure that treatment can be started without delay.

The PMC has cautioned citizens against ignoring or concealing symptoms, as delayed identification could increase the risk of complications.

Residents have been asked to provide health workers with the necessary information during the survey so that suspected cases can be referred for appropriate examination and treatment.
