8 Labourers Killed, 25 Injured in Madhya Pradesh Road Crash

A tragic accident occurred on National Highway-719 in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district on Monday, resulting in the deaths of 8 labourers and injuring 25 others. The accident took place near Chhimka village in Gohad, Bhind, late Monday night, around 1 am.

The labourers were returning to Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh after completing paddy plantation work in the Gwalior area. The pickup vehicle they were travelling in was going at a speed of around 80-90 kmph when the driver spotted some cows sitting on the highway.

In an attempt to avoid the cows, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an oncoming dumper. The impact of the collision was severe, causing significant damage to the pickup and trapping several workers inside.

Police from Gohad Chauraha police station rushed to the scene and, with the help of locals, rescued the injured workers from the vehicle. The injured were taken to a hospital, where those in serious condition received first aid and were later shifted to a trauma centre in Gwalior.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem, and the police are working to identify the victims and injured workers. The accident has raised concerns about the condition of NH-719, a 117-km highway that connects Bhind with Gwalior and Uttar Pradesh's Etawah.

The highway is still a two-lane road without a divider, despite local residents' demands for it to be widened to four lanes. The road is particularly risky at night, with vehicles travelling in opposite directions often passing very close to each other.

Local residents, youths, and saints from Dandraua Dham have held protests and submitted memorandums demanding improvements to the highway. Although claims have been made about approval and the start of the tender process, work has not yet started on the ground.

The latest accident has once again highlighted the danger faced by people travelling on the highway. The police are investigating the cause of the accident, which is believed to be the result of the driver's attempt to avoid the cows on the road.

The accident has sparked renewed calls for improvements to be made to the highway to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. The condition of NH-719 has been a concern for local residents and authorities, and it is hoped that action will be taken soon to address these concerns.

In conclusion, the tragic accident on the Bhind highway has resulted in the loss of 8 lives and injured 25 others. It has also highlighted the need for improvements to be made to the highway to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.
