MP Opens Two Women's Health Centres

Madhya Pradesh has established two dedicated super-speciality centres for women's health in Bhopal and Rewa.

The centre in Bhopal, located at Dr Kailashnath Katju Hospital, is a specialised Shakti Kendra that deals with complications related to infertility and elderly women.

It is equipped to handle various women's health issues, including preventive gynae oncology and infertility.

The centre in Rewa, located at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, is the state's first Centre of Excellence for Prenatal Diagnosis, focusing on identifying genetic disorders, birth defects, and chromosomal conditions such as Down syndrome.

In addition to these centres, state-of-the-art Intermediate Reference Laboratories (IRLs) have been set up in Bhopal and Indore under the National Health Mission (NHM) to provide diagnostic support for maternal care.

These laboratories act as higher-tier reference nodes for primary maternal and child health (MCH) centres, providing advanced microbiological or specialised diagnostic investigations when needed.

Dr Balram Upadhyaya, superintendent of Katju Hospital, explained that the state-of-the-art prenatal diagnosis uses advanced medical technology and methods to check the health of an unborn baby.

This includes high-detail imaging and deep genetic tests to identify problems early on.

The establishment of these centres demonstrates the government's commitment to improving women's health in Madhya Pradesh.

The centres will provide much-needed specialized care to women in the state, particularly in the areas of infertility, prenatal diagnosis, and maternal care.
