Bihar SI Exam Probed for Alleged Malpractice

The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe alleged irregularities in the Bihar Police Sub-Inspector recruitment examination.

The examination, conducted by the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) in May, had 35,857 candidates appearing for the preliminary written examination.

However, controversy arose after photographs of a question paper emerged from a centre, leading to allegations of malpractice.

The BPSSC maintained that there was no paper leak, but staff at one centre each in Gaya and Purnea allegedly photographed unused question papers belonging to absent candidates.

The EOU has taken over FIRs registered at Rampur police station in Gaya and in Purnea and will examine whether similar incidents occurred at other centres or districts.

EOU officials held a meeting to prepare a detailed investigation plan, reviewing evidence collected during the initial police probe along with the FIRs registered in Gaya and Purnea.

The development follows student delegations meeting the Education Department Secretary last week, demanding a probe into the Sub-Inspector recruitment examination.

The BPSSC has postponed the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and document verification process until further orders.

Around 414 candidates were disqualified for alleged malpractice or other reasons.

EOU DIG Manavjit Singh Dhillon confirmed the SIT formation, stating that complaints received from some candidates are also being examined.

The EOU will investigate allegations of irregularities in the Sub-Inspector written examination and examine whether similar incidents occurred at other centres or districts.

The controversy has led to protests from aspirants, with some claiming that they did not secure their spots by paying ₹25 lakhs.

The EOU's investigation will aim to determine the truth behind the allegations and ensure a fair recruitment process.

The Bihar government's decision to form a SIT to probe the alleged irregularities is a step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in the recruitment process.

The outcome of the investigation will be crucial in determining the fate of the candidates who appeared for the examination.

The incident highlights the need for strict measures to prevent malpractice in competitive examinations and ensure that the recruitment process is fair and transparent.
