UP Reviews National Highway Projects

A high-level meeting was held in Lucknow on Monday, July 13, 2026, to review the progress of major national highway projects in Uttar Pradesh. The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.

The meeting discussed various proposals submitted by the National Highways Authority of India, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and the Uttar Pradesh government. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of modern road infrastructure in driving economic growth and development in the state.

According to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Uttar Pradesh has become a key driver of India's economic growth, and the development of world-class road connectivity in the state is a top priority for the Central Government. He directed officials to expedite all projects by ensuring timely completion of land acquisition, forest clearances, utility shifting, and other departmental formalities.

The Chairman of the National Highways Authority of India informed the meeting that the development of national highways in Uttar Pradesh has gained significant momentum since 2014. Around 10,204 km of national highway projects have been awarded, and construction of nearly 9,329 km has already been completed.

Between April 2025 and May 2026, 606 km of new projects were approved, and 1,010 km of national highways were completed. The total investment in national highway projects in the state is approximately Rs 1.94 lakh crore, including nearly Rs 23,445 crore during the financial year 2025-26.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of major under-construction national highway projects in the state, including the Mathura-Bareilly-Sitarganj four-lane project, the Agra-Aligarh four-lane project, and the Agra-Gwalior-Jhansi-Nagpur Economic Corridor.

The state government's initiatives, such as providing royalty-free soil for Greenfield projects and sharing land acquisition costs for ring roads and bypasses, have significantly accelerated project implementation. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari appreciated these initiatives, stating that the positive impact of effective coordination between the Centre and the state is clearly visible in the progress of these projects.

The development of world-class road connectivity in Uttar Pradesh is expected to have a significant impact on the state's economy, driving growth and development in various sectors such as industry, agriculture, tourism, trade, and employment.

In conclusion, the review meeting highlighted the importance of improving road connectivity in Uttar Pradesh and the progress made so far in achieving this goal. The state government and the Central Government are working together to expedite the completion of national highway projects, which will have a positive impact on the state's economy and development.

The focus on developing world-class road connectivity in Uttar Pradesh is a significant step towards achieving the goal of making the state a key driver of India's economic growth. The completion of these projects will not only improve the state's infrastructure but also create new opportunities for economic growth and development.
