Bhiwandi Roads Remain Potholed Despite Mayor's Ward Affected

Bhiwandi's roads have become a major concern for residents and commuters due to the numerous potholes that have developed across the city, particularly during the monsoon season. The situation is alarming in the wards represented by the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Standing Committee chairperson.

Mayor Narayan Chaudhary's ward, which covers the Tadali-Kamatghar area, has several large potholes on roads in Kamatghar, Tadali, Dhamankar Naka, and Kalyan Naka. These potholes are not only causing traffic congestion but also increasing the risk of accidents.

A recent incident in the Kalyan Naka area highlighted the poor condition of the roads when a pregnant woman gave birth inside an autorickshaw while being taken to hospital due to traffic congestion caused by the potholes. Despite this incident, several stretches in and around the Mayor's ward continue to require repairs.

The ward of the Deputy Mayor, which falls under Prabhag Samiti No. 2, is also facing similar problems. Internal roads in Gaibinagar, Shantinagar, Babla Compound, Amjadiya Road, and Ravji Nagar are in poor condition, with the Amjadiya Road and Babla Compound Road stretches being particularly difficult for pedestrians and motorists to navigate.

The ward represented by Standing Committee chairperson Adv. Isha Khan, under Prabhag Samiti No. 1, also has several roads that require urgent attention. The stretch from the ST area to Vanjarpatti Naka and further towards Chavindra has potholes at multiple locations.

Other parts of the city, such as the Eidgah Road area and the road near Mubarak Hotel on the 60-Foot Road in Nagaon, are also facing similar problems. The poor condition of the roads is not only causing inconvenience to motorists but also posing a risk to schoolchildren who have to navigate water-filled potholes while walking to and from school.

The Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation has allocated approximately ₹5.09 crore for road repairs, which is a small fraction of the overall budget of around ₹1,179 crore. Residents have questioned why the roads continue to deteriorate every monsoon despite the allocation.

Civic officials have stated that temporary measures are being undertaken to keep the roads motorable during the rains. Potholes on major roads are being filled with stone aggregate, but the material is often washed away following heavy rainfall, resulting in potholes reappearing within a short period.

Municipal Commissioner Anmol Sagar has stated that the civic body is currently carrying out pothole-filling work during the monsoon and will undertake road repair work on a large scale once there is some respite from the rains.

The poor condition of the roads in Bhiwandi is a major concern that requires immediate attention from the civic authorities. The allocation of a sufficient budget for road repairs and the implementation of a long-term plan to maintain the roads are essential to prevent the recurrence of this problem every monsoon.
