A growing trend of using AI-generated retro and trend-based photographs in Bhopal has led to a rise in cybersecurity threats, with cases of deepfakes, blackmail, and identity theft emerging in the city.

Another incident in Nishatpura involved a young woman using AI tools to generate fake obscene photos of her boyfriend's mother and sister after he refused to marry her.

Similar cases have been reported in Anuppur district and in Bhopal, where a minor's AI-generated obscene video was circulated.

These incidents have raised concerns over the misuse of facial photographs and the easy availability of AI-based image and video manipulation tools.

Cyber police officials have cautioned users against uploading clear, high-resolution photographs to unidentified AI apps and websites, which can store and use the images for malicious purposes.

Some AI apps also offer free features initially but later push users towards subscriptions, which can lead to automatic payments if not checked carefully.

To stay safe, users are advised to check the developer details, permissions, reviews, subscription conditions, and auto-payment settings before using an AI application.

They should also avoid uploading personal photographs on unidentified AI apps, sharing high-resolution or sensitive photographs unnecessarily, and never share sensitive information like Aadhaar, PAN, or banking details.

By being cautious and taking necessary precautions, users can protect themselves from the potential risks associated with AI-generated photographs.
