Mumbai FDA Suspends 10 Licences Over Food Safety Violations

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has intensified its crackdown on food safety violations in Mumbai. On August 14, the FDA's Mumbai division inspected a Parle Agro warehouse in Chembur and found nearly 1,000 bottles of expired flavoured sparkling drinks. The seized stock was valued at Rs 99,970.

Records of employees' medical examinations and drinking-water testing were also unavailable. Similar deficiencies were found at another Blink facility in Malad West.

The FDA also inspected Zepto's facilities in Andheri West and Mulund, where food and non-food products, chemicals, and hazardous substances were not adequately segregated. The facilities also lacked sufficient temperature-control arrangements for perishable and temperature-sensitive products.

In total, the licences of 10 establishments have been suspended, while 14 others have been issued improvement notices. The FDA has initiated penal action under Section 69 of the Food Safety and Standards Act.
